This is a new release from the Flora range of unpeated whiskies.
It is a blend centred on the bourbon cask-matured spirit—the key malt of the Ikawa Distillery—with sherry cask-matured spirit.
Taking a different approach from the first release, Flora 2024, we have sought to explore a new direction whilst remaining true to the core of our craftsmanship. We have selected a bourbon cask-aged spirit with bitter undertones and layered it with the depth and complexity derived from sherry casks to create a rich flavour profile. The label features the rare species ‘Oosakurasou’, which blooms along the streams of the subalpine zone in the Southern Alps.
[Tasting Notes]
Woody nuances reminiscent of a forest, derived from the bourbon casks, blend with the floral aromas of the sherry casks, evoking the image of a botanical garden where wood, flowers and fruit coexist. On the palate, one detects a sweetness and fruitiness reminiscent of banana and chocolate.
With a touch of water, the texture becomes softer and the presence of the sherry becomes more pronounced.
It pairs well served neat, on the rocks or with water, and savouring it slowly reveals fascinating changes in aroma.
