In 2021, Saburomaru Distillery ventured into uncharted territory. We prepared a super heavily peated Highland malt with a phenol value of 80ppm, the strongest in Saburomaru’s history. The fierce smoke, reminiscent of dry earth, scorches the atmosphere, and its lingering aroma resonates powerfully like the rumbling of wheels. It symbolises the will to face difficulties and the independence to move forward without relying on anyone. The path that Saburomaru blazes is always ahead of challenges and charges.

The motif is based on tarot cards (comprising 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana), and we have adopted card number 8 of the 22 Major Arcana, ‘The Chariot’.

Once again, we commissioned paper-cut artist Yukie Kano (born in Himi City, Toyama Prefecture) to create a paper-cut of this ‘The Chariot’ card, which we have adopted for the label design.
